F-Secure reports malware doubled in 2007


Leading security company and Commtouch partner F-Secure published its semi-annual IT Security Threat Summary today. Their labs have seen the number of malware samples double since the beginning of 2007, from 250,000 to 500,000.

It’s not so much that there are new types of malicious code, but that malware writers are mass producing slightly tweaked variations. In a way its like the malware market has matured from experimental tinkering and developing of new inventions, to the mass production and distribution of hundreds of thousands of copies, reaching individuals and corporations around the world.Checkout the F-Secure Report and Mikko Hypponen’s video summary.
